Great dives!

Last Sunday was a great day to be alive, with wonderful diving and a good friend to enjoy it with. Kevin, my dive buddy accompanied me on a couple of spearfishing dives on some old brush piles we have. Visibility, while not great, wasn’t bad at 8 to 12ft above the thermocline and 20ft below the therm. We brought in a striper, 6 walleye and a couple of bass. Our Mares Pnuematic guns were whacking and stacking. We let a couple of Blue Catfish in the 10 to 12 pound range live to see another day as it was late and didn’t want to fight cleaning them. The moss seems to be trying to come back a bit at this point, but i wouldn’t deem it troublesome for now. Fish are holding anywhere there is brush, season is open till March 15th, come get you some!

Count down to SPEARFISHING TOURNAMENT

We’re only days away from our annual Brady Mountain spearfishing tournament to be held on the 18th. Remember you can enter on or before the 8th for $25.00 after that, up until 9:oo am the morning of the tournament, the fee is $30.00. You can enter at either of our two locations “Scuba and Archery Center” or “Lake Ouachita Dive Center”.

Strange spring

” In like a Lion, out like a lamb” If that is the correct phrase then maybe there is hope for the remainder of our spring.

Within the last few weeks we have been playing host to storm after storm, tornado, flood, you name it.  Yesterday, April 25th multiple tornadoes touched down in the vicinity of Brady Mountain causing massive damage to trees, houses and loss of life. It may be days or weeks before some parts of this area get back to normal. Those that lost person or property our prayers are with you.

This storm system also brought a torrential amount of much needed rain all at once, which means – flooding. In one day alone Lake Ouachita rose almost 4 feet, and in that past 10 days it has risen 7+ feet. Area creeks and streams are flowing a much needed supply of water into the reservoir. With it, it is bringing a large volume of silt and debris. My expectation is that water clarity will be diminished within the next few days.

The good news is that we were still historically down on water levels, so this water is needed to make it through a long hot summer. A few days of murky water in the spring is a fair price to pay for higher water levels all summer long.

I am ready for the lamb part of the saying…. what about you?

DIVE BOAT RENTALS!!!

Coming soon to our Lake Ouachita Dive Center location- 17ft x 54″ Jon boats with 4 stroke 25 HP motors rigged to dive from. Want the freedom to dive when and where you want on Ouachita at a low cost, this is your answer!

There is so much hype out there in the world today about Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It’s on CNN daily.

But they are missing the “real  story”

New site launched

Over the thanksgiving holiday weekend I have had the distinct pleasure to work on a new website for Scuba and Archery center… trying to move Steve from the 1980′s of websites into something he can update and change.

Its the goal of this site to engage and inform, to encourage people to visit the site because there are actually useful items here. We will try and update the site on a regular basis with Archery tips and tricks, reports from the woods, water clarity and spearfishing reports and more. As we move forward in this venture I am curious what YOU would like to see? What would be helpful?

Please feel free to add any comments to this post or email me directly at howard@scuba-archery.com

This is not my job, but a labor of love for a great friend and business man – Steve Spivey.
